Here are my final front covers and contents pages.
Below is an analysis of my work and things to consider in terms of references and intertextuality:
EDITION 1:
MY main model for my first edition is a musician about to embark on a worldwide tour. His article focuses on his personal style and tour fashion.
INTERTEXUAL REFERENCE: The headline "STYLE & DRAMA & ROCK AND ROLL" is a reference to the famous rock song "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll" by Ian Dury.
INTERTEXUALITY IN CONTENTS ARTICLES:
"18 - Oh! You Pretty Things: The 70s Is Coming Back" - reference to famous David Bowie song, "Oh! You Pretty Things"
DIGITAL CONVERGENCE:
CALL TO ACTION in Editor's Letter: "We are also hosting a competition on our website"... "Post a TikTok with the hashtag elite magazine" encourages audiences to get involved and create an online buzz and community around the magazine in order to win prizes.
Bottom left corner of left page: "See more at: www.elitemagazine.com" encourages audiences to visit the website.
My main model for my first edition is an actress who recently starred in a film about masculinity, femininity and the treatment of women in the workplace. Because of this, my model's article focuses on "Redefining Femininity" and what it means to her. In the magazine, she wears masculine clothing.
INTERTEXTUAL REFERENCE: This is a reference to the movie Annie Hall, in which Diane Keaton wears masculine clothing and suits. I tried to emulate her famous costumes in the clothes my model wears in this edition.
INTERTEXUALITY IN CONTENTS ARTICLES:
"23 - Miley Cyrus' 7 Things in her bag!" Reference to Cyrus' famous song 7 Things
"40 - Is There Life on Mars? Exploring Katy Perry's Space Suit" Reference to Katy Perry's adventures in space and David Bowie's famous song Life on Mars
DIGITAL CONVERGENCE:
Bottom left corner of the right page includes text: "Join the ELITE club for more exclusive content: www.elitemagazine.com".
This encourages audiences to visit the website and interact.
Editors letter references the last one, by saying "Thank you for sending TikTok submissions!" as the last one called for.
